Post-War and Contemporary Art

As the global market leader for post-war and contemporary art for nearly two decades, Christie’s offers an unrivalled opportunity to experience some of the greatest masterpieces of the 20th and 21st centuries. From live auctions to online sales with works at accessible price points, we continue to adapt to a rapidly changing market, leading the way with unmatched expertise to best serve the needs of our clients.

Our flagship 20th/21st Century Art auctions spotlight seminal modern and contemporary works. Auctions in London, New York, Paris and Hong Kong highlight iconic artists from 1945 to 1970, such as Mark Rothko, Andy Warhol, Francis Bacon and Louise Bourgeois, along with contemporary stars like Jean-Michel Basquiat, Yayoi Kusama, Gerhard Richter and Cecily Brown.

Continuously setting new auction records, in 2022 Christie’s sold Andy Warhol’s Shot Sage Blue Marilyn for US$195 million, making it the most expensive work of 20th-century art ever to sell at auction.

In 2021, Christie’s was the first international auction house to sell an NFT of a purely digital work of art, setting the stage for this dynamic and innovative new collecting category.

Beyond auctions, Christie’s hosts selling exhibitions and private sales featuring paintings, drawings, photographs and installations. Our global team of specialists is available for complimentary and confidential valuations of individual works or entire collections, offering an unparalleled service for buying or selling at auction, online or through bespoke private sales.

Help us tune the type sizes

This is a copy of a christies.com page, set up to compare today’s type sizes with a proposal for new ones. Change the numbers until the page reads well at every width, then send us the link.

  1. Compare

Before shows today’s sizes, which jump at set screen widths. After shows the proposal, where each size grows smoothly with the screen. Switch between them in the toolbar, or press T.

  2. Tune

Each row in the Tune sizes panel is one size, set at three widths: 390px for a phone, 1440px for a laptop and 2560px for a large monitor. Type a number and the page changes as you type. Make the window narrower or wider to see the sizes in between.

  3. Check

The coloured labels name the size each piece of text uses, and how far it is from Before. Point at a row in the panel to outline the text that uses it. Press D to hide the labels.

  4. Share

Your numbers live in the page’s address and nowhere else, so nobody else’s page changes. Press Copy link and send it: whoever opens it sees your sizes.

Spacing, page margins and the layout on very wide screens stay on the proposal throughout, so the type is the only thing that changes. Back to the proposal in the panel undoes your changes.
